Frequently Asked Questions

Putting the wrong fuel in your car is a lot more common than you think. Often the biggest concern is that you may have ruined your engine, or caused serious irreparable damage to the vehicle. You are not alone!

Our team have helped hundreds of people just like you get your vehicle safely back on the road, with no long term damage to the car.

Below you will find some of the most common questions and answers that our customers ask.

I have just realised I've put the wrong fuel in my car. Can I just put in some of the correct fuel into the tank with the correct fuel to dilute it?

We strongly suggest you do not do this! This may cause long term damage to your vehicle. If you choose to do that, you do so at your own risk and understand you may not  be insured for any damages.

What if I have already driven my vehicle before I’ve realised that it has the wrong fuel in it?

Circulating the wrong fuel through any engine may cause damage to it. To minimise the inevitable risk of further damage, and repair costs, a complete drainage and decontamination of the vehicle fuel tank and system is required. The earlier this is done, the better for your car.

Will my car be ruined from putting the wrong fuel in it?

99.9% of the time there will be no long term damage to your car after you put the wrong fuel in. It’s important to call a professional who is trained on how to fix this, and to not try this yourself.

DO NOT START THE ENGINE. IF IT IS POSSIBLE, PUSH THE CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD.

Will my insurance cover me if I have filled the wrong fuel?

Unfortunately, not in many cases. Most breakdown/insurance providers treat misfuelling incidents as a self-inflicted mishap, only offering aid and assistance at an additional cost, premium or excess to the policy holder.
Please contact your insurer to confirm your individual policy details.

How much does the call-out/fuel drain procedure cost?

Our price/fee is calculated individually to each misfuelling situation. This calculation is based on each job’s detailed specifications. Providing individual quotes allows MisFuel Recovery to provide unparalleled competitive rates within the industry and is a major factor why MisFuel Recovery can consistently deliver outstanding value to our customers.

I have put the wrong fuel in my motorbike, car, truck, van or any other vehicle – can you still help me?

It doesn’t matter what you are driving, we can drain the wrong fuel from any type of vehicle and get you back on the road. You’ll be surprised at the range of vehicles we attend daily.

I put the wrong fuel in my car and have driven to work, can we schedule a time for you to do the fuel drain?

Sure, if you have managed to get to work or home before realising your mistake, then we can schedule a convenient time for you.

Are you available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week?

Yes, our fuel drain service never stops. We have vans and expert technicians across Sydney ready to help you get back on the road as quickly as possible.

Are you available on Public Holidays?

Yes, our fleet are available to help any day of the year across Sydney and surrounding areas.

What happens to the fuel that you remove?

Why should I use the MisFuel Recovery rather than another company?

We guarantee to despatch a professionally trained, technician who will treat you and your vehicle with the utmost respect.
We are experts in this industry so we recommend that you contact us before your local mechanic or vehicle dealer, about your situation. Most won’t be correctly equipped to perform a fuel drain on site and may be very expensive, and time consuming.

Would my local service centre be better equipped to perform this service?

Local service centres are often booked out weeks in advance, and on average it can end up costing you up to 3 times more than what you would pay with Misfuel Recovery. To get you back on the road same day, call MisFuel Recovery
